VOIMASSA

Peer0Note (working titles along the way: PyroNote, Peer-Zero-Note) is a local-first, offline note-taking app built around one idea: your notes are yours, full stop. No account, no cloud, nothing phoning home. Everything lives in a plain SQLite file on your machine, and everything you write is portable Markdown -- readable, greppable, and yours to walk away with whenever you want.

What it actually is

Under the hood, Peer0Note is a Tauri 2 desktop app with a Vue 3 frontend and a Milkdown-powered rich editor, so notes read like formatted documents while you write -- headings, bold and italic, code blocks, task lists, inline images -- while everything still round-trips to plain Markdown underneath. Flip to raw source view any time you want to see, or hand-edit, exactly what's being stored.

Notes nest to any depth you like -- root notes, sub-notes, sub-sub-notes -- and you reorder or re-parent anything with a drag.

The little things that add up

  • Tag chips -- type tag: anywhere to drop in a colour-coded tag, stored as plain tag:[Name] in the Markdown.
  • Deadline chips -- type @deadline to attach a real date and time to any line, heading, or checklist item.
  • Checklist status glyphs -- right-click a checkbox for statuses beyond plain done or not-done, like "Forfeited" or "Failed" -- fully user-defined.
  • Sum-list chips -- type num: or sum: inside a list for live rollup totals that recalculate automatically as nested numbers change.
  • Ref entries -- type #ref to create a structured little record (a person, a server, anything), then pull it up elsewhere with @ref as a linked chip with a hover preview.
  • Collapsible sections -- VS Code-style folding for headings and nested lists, remembered per note.

Search that narrows as you think

Instead of one search box, you build a query out of steps -- a term search, "updated recently," "has unchecked to-dos" -- each one narrowing the last. Built for the "I remember roughly what I wrote and roughly when" situation, which, honestly, is most of them.

Make it yours

Every colour, size, font, and glyph in the app is tunable from a live side panel: start from a Dark or Lite preset, tweak to taste, then export the result to reuse on another machine or share with a friend. Right-click prefill templates -- a shopping list, a work week with rollups built in -- drop in ready-made structures when you don't want to build from scratch.

Your data, your rules

No metrics. No "partners." No bullshit. If we can help it, your notes never leave your machine without you telling them to.

That's not just a slogan -- the database itself can be encrypted at rest. Switch on Secure mode and your SQLite file is protected with SQLCipher (AES-256, nothing exotic or unproven), with a choice of standard or maximum key-derivation strength depending on how paranoid you're feeling that day. Simple mode, the default, stays a plain unencrypted file, for when you'd rather just move fast.

Where it runs

Windows 11 and Linux today. macOS isn't tested yet, so consider it "probably fine, unconfirmed." It's local-only by design for now -- optional online sync is on the table for later, but it'll be something you switch on, never something switched on for you.
